Academic Excellence

Dominion academy learning program can educate struggling learners in a deliberate, compassionate way that addresses their underlying processing challenges and supports the emergence of complex, logical problem-solving and critical thinking. Dominion caters to students who has or need IEP’s (Individual Education Plan)

Participants who are in elementary, middle or high school will have an individualized plan for their education, including classes to strengthen foundational processing skills, as well as classes to work on core subjects. Whenever possible, learning is experiential and built around participants’ specific interests.

Each participant meets weekly with a licensed mental health professional, both in small groups and individually. These experiences provide emotional support, developmental growth, and individualized work on communication and relationship building.

Curriculum

Dominion uses the Pearson’s curriculum. Connection learning offers a powerful learning management system and more than 600 proven, standards-aligned courses taught by our certified, licensed teachers or by your own teachers trained in the platform.  Online courses have been public-school tested by more than 70,000 students. Pearson’s curriculum weaves the latest and greatest resources from leading education publishers into every lesson plan. Skillfully combining these resources with our own proprietary tools and content, our curriculum specialists create a multi-dimensional online learning curriculum that engages and instructs. From Discovery Education® lab simulations to Pearson iTexts, Connections Learning provides the best student experience possible. Student learning is facilitated daily while online with state certified, licensed teachers.

Supporting Students With Special Needs & Learning Disabilities

Students with Dyslexia

For students with Dyslexia, instruction and assessments can all be customized for them to go at their pace and dig deeper with their teacher.

Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Here are just a few of the accommodations that have helped our students with ASD:

  • clearly established and ordered routines

  • warning and preparation when changes are anticipated

  • planning and practicing communication strategies and social routines

  • student breaks & time-out when necessary

  • visual schedules and graphic organizers

  • visual or written, rather than auditory, instructions

Students with ADD/ADHD

Students who have ADD/ADHD are provided with the support they need to thrive. Distractions are managed and students actively engage in class at all times.

Students with Anxiety

Anxiety comes in many forms: social, school, general, test, and more. At DLA we can personalize the experience to create a space where students feel safe and supported. Teachers also act as mentors and check in with students throughout the class period and school day.
